It's Monday! What are you reading? Week #1

Last week I decided to reread a book which I read 20 years ago!  The Once and Future King by E.H. White tells the story of the future young King Arthur (Wart) and all those who live in the stories as well.  Witty, descriptive, adventurous with a twist on today's issues too.  It's not for the faint of heart though...700 pages.  One of our 6th grade students read it this fall and I wanted so much to relive his joy of reading this book but could not remember a whole lot.  So...definitely worth the reread!

What are you reading?  For everyone who posts in the Comments and shares the title of what they're reading, I am making treats this week...maybe more of those yummy chocolate cookies...and you, my friend shall have one!

If any of your parents post a Comment, their sweet child will receive a Ticket!  If a teacher posts a Comment,  stop by for a treat later this week.

If you are not logged in to Google, type your name with your Comment.  You can just type the name of the book and Post or you can leave a bit of commentary like I did. Either, or.

What are you reading?

Friday's Class in ELA

Today students continued working on Myth projects with partners.  Most are planning the myth, figuring out the god or goddess who will play a part in the myth and generally planning out the elements of the myth...the hero, the setting, the lesson it teaches.

We continue to write Quickwrites in our Writer's Notebooks each class...a 7 minute exercise and believe it or not, some are taking these home to continue.  Some of the prompts are from Mrs. Leighton's suggestions but many are writing from their own prompt ideas.  Today Mrs. Leighton collected all notebooks only to assess for the amount of writing students are achieving.  She explained her Woot Woot stamp and why she uses it when she sees a full page of writing.  The plan is collect lots of ideas which may lead to a writing project to publish.

Stay tuned next week for a new web tool called PearDeck.  We'll be using it to do quick grammar lessons.

Woot Woot!

Happy New Year and Wecome to January 2015 ELA

In ancient Roman religion and myth, Janus is the god of beginnings and transitions, and thereby of gates, doors, doorways, passages and endings. Welcome to January!

Your assignment:

To begin, look back through your reading records and jot down a few notes in your Writer's Notebook about who you were as a reader last year.  How many books did you read, how many different authors, what genres did you read,  which books mattered to you, how diverse were your authors and stories, did you read outside your comfort zone, etc......?

Next, please write a paragraph or two... about your reading accomplishments for 2014 AND your reading goals for 2015.  If you do not know and really haven't thought about it, then this is a perfect time to do so.

Finally, please copy and paste your writing into the Comment section of this blog post so that we can share with each other.
