Banned Book Week

ALA | Frequently challenged books of the 21st century

The American Library Association's Banned Books Week is a way to celebrate brave and creative authors -- and the freedom to read, yes. But more importantly, it is a way to celebrate students' ability to think for themselves. (Edutopia blogger)

Band and Chorus begin next week!!!!

Note from Mrs. Vose:

Band and Chorus will resume next week.

6-8 BAND: Wednesday from 8-8:45 and Friday during study hall (12:10-12:50)

6-8 CHORUS: Tuesday/Thursday from 8-8:45

For kids who have been getting breakfast, Lisa will be able to start giving out breakfast for chorus and band members by quarter of, so as long as you are here, you can eat before band/chorus begin.
If grades start to slip, academics would take priority over band/chorus! Students will be responsible to make up the work they are missing to participate in band and chorus.

Irene, Goodbye, Irene

Irene emerged from her chrysalis some time in the night. During Hurricane Irene a Monarch caterpillar formed its chrysalis and Mrs. Leighton brought it to school. An eighth grade student suggested we name her Irene and she did turn out to be an Irene. A male Monarch sports two dark spots on its veins which are glands. The male produces a hormone which attracts females like Irene. So Irene is resting up for her flight to Mexico. We'll release her sometime on Friday and as one eighth grade said today, Have a good life, Irene.
